Follow these steps to install CafeTran on your computer:

1. Install Java

CafeTran requires Java (version 1.5 or higher) to be installed to run. The System Mac OS X has already Java installed and ready to use. If you don't have Java installed on your computer you can download it from here:

2. Download CafeTran from here: cafetran.zip

3. Unpack and run

After downloading, unpack the program in any directory on your computer and double click the following file:
  • on Windows: Cafetran.exe or Cafetran.bat (you can make a shortcut from your desktop to this executable file and then choose the icon (CAT.ico) for this shortcut).

  • on Mac OS: Cafetran.command (the icon for the desktop link is CAT.png). First, edit this file and set the full path to your Cafetran.jar file. Here is the example:

    java -Xms256m -Xmx1024m -jar /Users/igor/Documents/Tools/cafetran/Cafetran.jar

  • on Linux and other Unix based operating systems: Cafetran.sh (the icon for the desktop link is CAT.png). You may have to edit this file and set the full path to your Cafetran.jar file. Here is the example:

    java -Xms256m -Xmx1024m -jar /home/igor/tools/cafetran/Cafetran.jar

  • By some huge resources such as more than 100 MB memories or dictionaries, you may need to increase java maximum memory available for CafeTran. This can be done by editing Cafetran.command (Mac OS), Cafetran.sh (Linux or other Unix based systems), Cafetran.bat (Windows) file and setting the Xmx value like in the following example:

    java -Xms256m -Xmx2048m -jar /Users/igor/Documents/Tools/cafetran/Cafetran.jar

  • CafeTran looks great with Substance skins. You can download the substance.jar file and copy it to the lib folder in CafeTran's installation directory. Then, select your favorite skin in the View | Look and Feel menu.
